  • Sjøholt – Geiranger – Sjøholt

A day in Geiranger is a natural choice when you are on vacation here. Geiranger is one of two places in Norway listed on UNESCO's World Heritage Sites, the other being Nærøyfjorden in Sogn. In Geiranger, there are many activities you can do. We recommend booking a spot on one of the many RIB boats that take you into the fjord so that you can see everything up close. Waterfalls, mountains, and abandoned farms on the most incredible mountain shelves in the fjord. You should also bring hiking boots and disembark from the boat to walk to the mountain farm Skageflå. This farm is a charming destination for the Norwegian royal family, among others, and provides a magnificent experience of how many Norwegians had to manage to survive in the past. This is the farm where they had to tether children with ropes so they wouldn't fall off the cliffs!

In the center of Geiranger, there are many cafes, and if you're up for more activity, you can climb the stairs along the waterfall. At the top of the stairs, you'll find the World Heritage Center. This is worth a visit. Here, you can learn more about the avalanche-prone fjords and the threat from areas like Åknesrenna (Feel free to watch the movie "The Wave" in advance). You will also learn more about everyday life along the fjords in the past. Otherwise, it's mandatory to make a stop at Flydalsjuvet and Dalsnibba (1476 meters above sea level) with a cafe and viewpoint.

If you have more time, it's worth checking out Herdalssætra in Norddalen on the way back. Here, there is a mountain farm with goats and a sale of various products they make on the farm.

  • Sjøholt – Runde – Sjøholt

The bird mountain Runde is approximately a 2-hour drive from Sjøholt, including a ferry ride. This is a beautiful day trip destination, with the natural highlight being the approximately 40-minute hike up to the bird mountain itself. From the small community of Goksøyr on the island of Runde, you walk on a well-maintained trail up to the cliffs of the Runde bird mountain. Here, you encounter a spectacular view of the wild sea, islands along the coast, and, most importantly, the many bird species inhabiting the mountain slopes. The sea eagle soars around you, and if you're lucky, you may get close to the famous puffin. Runde is located in the municipality of Herøy, and exploring this municipality is also worth considering. Feel free to stop in Ulsteinvik and the idyllic coastal community of Flø.

  • Sjøholt – Molde – Atlantic Road – Bud – Sjøholt

Follow in the footsteps of James Bond! From Sjøholt, drive approximately 20 minutes to the ferry that takes you to Molde. From Molde, it's about a 40-minute drive to the Atlantic Road. This is one of the world's most beautiful stretches of road and is equally stunning in all kinds of weather! From the Atlantic Road, you can either continue towards Kristiansund or take the southern route along the coast to the fishing village of Bud. This is a delightful day trip where you must also explore the jazz city Molde. For the more adventurous, we recommend a stop in Eide to hike to Trollkirka. This is a mountain cave about 40 meters long that leads you to a fantastic waterfall inside the mountain. Remember to bring a flashlight!

  • Sjøholt – Nordøyane – Sjøholt

In August 2022, the roads connecting the islands of Nordøyane on the coast of Sunnmøre will open. After approximately a 45-minute drive, you will reach Lepsøybrua. Crossing this bridge takes you to several islands that form a unique island community. Here, you'll find beaches, mountain hikes, fishing opportunities, and the chance to visit caves (mountain caves), Ulla lighthouse, and more. If you want to get close to the open sea, this is the perfect place for a day trip. At the outermost point, you can take a ferry to the island community of Ona. This is a beautiful trip in all kinds of weather!
